Every 90 minutes
there is a train accident that occurs in the U.S.
Every railroad must report a train accident to the Federal
Railroad Administration within thirty days of an accident.
The recent California train accident of April 23, 2002 will
be investigated due to the nature of the accident. The Metrolink
spokeswoman Sharon Gavin responded to the deadly train accident
by saying, "This is obviously a very serious incident
and there is an investigation." Metrolink officials are
not sure how the two trains ended up on the same track, killing
two passengers and injuring hundreds of others.
The California train crash was the worst Metrolink accident
in the nine-year history of system according to a spokesman.
