Every 90 minutes there is a train accident that occurs in the U.S.

Every railroad must report a train accident to the Federal Railroad Administration within thirty days of an accident. The recent California train accident of April 23, 2002 will be investigated due to the nature of the accident. The Metrolink spokeswoman Sharon Gavin responded to the deadly train accident by saying, "This is obviously a very serious incident and there is an investigation." Metrolink officials are not sure how the two trains ended up on the same track, killing two passengers and injuring hundreds of others.

PLACENTIA TRAIN ACCIDENT KILLS TWO, INJURES HUNDREDS

On Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at about 8:10 AM, a Metrolink commuter train collided with a mile-long freight train during rush hour near Placentia in northern Orange Country. The California train accident resulted in the death of two people and injured about 265 others.
